In 2027 the Rutherglen Football & Netball Club turns 150.
Not many clubs get there. Fewer still get there with juniors running around the same ground their great-grandparents played on. We wanted to mark it properly, so across the 2027 season we've taken on a handful of projects that will still be here long after the year is over.
Each one needs a business or a family behind it. That's where you come in.
One hundred and fifty years of community
The first recorded game of football in Rutherglen was in 1877. By 1893 we were a foundation member of the Ovens & Murray. Through the 1900s we won fifteen senior premierships and had a good long run of dominance. We merged with Corowa in 1979, re-established ourselves as a standalone club in the 2000s, and here we are.
Today the club runs teams at every level of football and netball, from Auskick and Net Set Go through to seniors. More than 300 players. Over 50 volunteers. Some families have been part of this place for four generations.
What we're doing in 2027
The 150 Year Documentary.
There's a bloke in town who can still tell you exactly what the mud was like in a grand final fifty years ago. There's a woman who ran the canteen for the better part of thirty years and knows every family that came through it. We're getting it all on film while we still can.
Heritage Round and the 150th Gala Ball.
Retro guernseys, past players three deep on the boundary, and old photos along the fence going back to the 1800s. That night we're putting on the biggest event this club has ever hosted.
Past Players Day.
Ask anyone who's played here. You stop playing, but you never really stop being a Cat.
Community Day.
Barkly Park thrown open to the whole town. Junior clinics, stalls, food, music, and free entry for everyone in Rutherglen.
The Heritage Archive.
Most of our history is sitting in shoeboxes and garages across the district. We're bringing it into one place, and giving the history timeline on the clubhouse walls the refresh it's badly needed for twenty years.
The Cats Wellbeing Program.
Wellbeing rounds across football and netball, and practical workshops for our players. A country club is often the first place someone notices that a mate isn't quite right.

Annual club sponsorship.
Our usual levels are still on offer, from signage on the fence through to Silver. Platinum and Gold are locked in until 2029.
The 150 Cats Foundation Club.
$400 gets you a 2027 membership, a heritage pin, a heritage polo and a discount on all our social events. You don't need a business to be part of 150 years.
Game day awards.
It takes about a thousand awards to get a club through a season. You can back a player, a team or a whole round, and vouchers from your own business count just as much as cash.
